Checking your WASSCE or BECE results online takes a few minutes if you have the right details ready. This guide walks through the official WAEC result checker, WAECDirect Ghana, step by step, using only what the WAECDirect site itself says.
What you need
- Your index number
- Your examination type (for example WASSCE School or WASSCE Private) and year
- A WAECDirect result checker voucher (scratch card), which has a serial number and a 12-digit PIN
- Your date of birth, if you are checking WASSCE (Private) or BECE (School) results
According to the WAECDirect FAQ, scratch cards are sold at the WAEC National Office and its council offices across Ghana, and may be sold at other outlets WAEC designates. The site also lists scratch card outlets.
Step by step
- Go to the official checker at ghana.waecdirect.org.
- Enter your index number.
- Select your examination type, for example WASSCE.
- Select your examination year.
- If you are checking WASSCE (Private) or BECE (School) results, enter your date of birth.
- Enter the serial number found on your voucher.
- Enter the 12-digit PIN from your voucher.
- Confirm your index number and examination year. This makes sure your details are correct.
- Click Submit and wait. Your results show in a pop-up window, and WAECDirect says this may take several minutes.
Which results can you check on WAECDirect?
The examination types listed on the WAECDirect Ghana checker are:
- BECE and BECE (Private)
- WASSCE (School) and WASSCE (Private), including Nov/Dec private results
- SSSCE, the older senior secondary exam
- GBCE and ABCE, for May/June and Nov/Dec sittings
The year list runs from 1990 to 2026, so older results can be checked too.
How to check BECE results
Use the same nine steps above and choose BECE (or BECE (Private)) as the examination type. If you are checking BECE (School) results, the site also asks for the candidate’s date of birth. After BECE, the next step is school placement, which is handled on the separate CSSPS placement portal.
If your result does not show
- Wait a few minutes after clicking Submit. WAECDirect warns that the pop-up can take several minutes to appear.
- Allow pop-ups for ghana.waecdirect.org in your browser, or the result window may be blocked.
- Check your index number, examination type and year. A card used for a different candidate’s result counts as used.
How many times can one card be used?
WAECDirect says one scratch card lets you check your results up to three times. A card works for one result only. If you try to use it for a different candidate’s result, the card counts as used. After three checks, you need a new card.
Other WAECDirect services
The same card can be used to request result confirmation (results sent to you by post) or result verification (results verified for you or an institution). Each of these requests uses all three units on the card.
Watch out for scams
WAEC has repeatedly warned candidates to be wary of fake results websites and of fraudsters who promise to upgrade results for a fee. WAEC results are secured and can be verified, so no one can legally change your grades for money. Use only the official checker, and never share your PIN with someone who contacts you offering help.
What next?
Once you have your grades, work out your aggregate and compare it with your programme’s requirements. Our guide to WASSCE requirements for UG and KNUST explains how.
